'Always be careful, especially in prayer. To succeed better, remember that grace and the taste of prayer are not drawn from earth but heaven. It is necessary that we use the greatest care and every effort to dispose ourselves, but always humbly and calmly. Even if we should use all our strength, we are not the ones who pray and draw grace by our own efforts. It is necessary that we hold our hearts open to heaven and wait for the heavenly dew to descend.’
(From a letter to a woman)
’The person who has found love eats Christ at all times, and from then on becomes immortal. Whoever eats this bread, he says (Jn.6.58), shall never taste death.’
‘Love whose cause is God is likely spring welling up from the depths: its flow never abates, for God alone is that spring of love whose supply never fades’.
