I am John-Francis Friendship, a priest, Spiritual Director, Pastoral Supervisor, and published author.
Having been raised in London, where I worked for several years, I entered the Anglican Religious Life as a member of the Society of St Francis (SSF) in 1976. In 1994, I was ordained to the priesthood, and by 2002, I was released from my vows as a First Order brother.
For a decade, I served as a parish priest in Romford, east London. Now, I live with my partner in the southeast of our capital city while continuing to offer priestly ministry, one-on-one spiritual direction, conduct retreats, and write extensively on matters concerning the Christian faith. In 2022, I was professed into the Third Order of the Society of St. Francis.
You will also find details of my publications and the books I have written here.
Welcome!
John-Francis Friendship

This booklet explores how to make the most of a silent retreat, preached or otherwise. The author, John-Francis Friendship, is an Anglican priest, member of the Third Order of St. Francis and former First Order brother who has many years’ experience of retreats – either as a retreatant himself or retreat guide.
It covers material such as how to cope with silence and use it well, notes on different approaches to prayer including praying with scripture, the use of common times of worship and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the value of a Retreat Journal, how to prepare, what to take and some suggested books on prayer and spirituality.
